National Best Friends Day!

Did you know: The relationship between best friends is often fierce and can withstand distance, storms and silence. Whether we’ve known them all our lives or they are more recently acquired, best friends make tough times bearable, fun times memorable, and memorable times priceless.

Today in History: Shirley Chisholm visits her opponent George Wallace in the hospital Rep. Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress, visits Alabama Governor George Wallace, perhaps the single most famous supporter of racial segregation in modern history, as he recovers from an assassination attempt on June 8, 1972.

LGBTQIA Pride Month

What are some concerns that the LGBTQ people may face at home, at school, and in the community?

Many communities accept LGBTQ people without bias. But some communities do not. For adults and teens, hate crimes, job discrimination, and housing discrimination can be serious problems. For teens, bullying in school also can be a problem. If you are being bullied at school, talk with your parents or another trusted adult, a teacher, or your principal. There also are websites and hotlines where you can be anonymous (see Resources).
