NATIONAL TORTILLA CHIP DAY!

Did you know: Even though tortilla chips have always been considered to be Mexican food, known as tostadas, they were first mass-produced in Los Angeles in the late 1940s. Rebecca Webb Carranza receives credit for making the crisp chips popular.

 

Today in History: Alamo defenders call for help

On February 24, 1836, in San Antonio, Texas, Colonel William Travis issues a call for help on behalf of the Texan troops defending the Alamo, an old Spanish mission and fortress under siege by the Mexican army.

 

First Black President: In 2008, Barack Obama became the first Black president of the United States.
