National Pizza Day!

Did you Know: It’s hard to imagine that before World War II, pizza was little known outside of Italy or Italian immigrant communities. This cheesy disc went from a niche cultural meal to the star of the show anywhere it turns up! Let’s hear it for pizza!

Today in History: Satchel Paige nominated to Baseball Hall of Fame On February 9, 1971, pitcher Leroy “Satchel” Paige becomes the first Negro League veteran to be nominated for the Baseball Hall of Fame. In August of that year, Paige, a pitching legend known for his fastball, showmanship and the longevity of his playing career, which spanned five decades, was inducted. Joe DiMaggio once called Paige “the best and fastest pitcher I’ve ever faced.”

First Black President: In 2008, Barack Obama became the first Black president of the United States.

Quote of the day: “It isn’t where you come from; it’s where you’re going that counts.” – Ella Fitzgerald
